Love

Many of us seem to be in search of love, wanting to find the true meaning, thinking that you may have experienced it once or twice but not sure what happened to it.

We certainly feel love for our children even though we sometimes do not show it. That privileged intimacy that comes with being a parent is love for certain. Sadly, some parents can’t accomplish the wondrous dependency, that bond that never breaks kind of love between parent and child.

As adults we so struggle with our relationships. Love at this level is much different than the parent/child union. We can't seem to hold on to intimacy and we think of dependency as everything opposite of wondrous.

In my desire to improve my relationships with everyone I come in contact with I struggle with “love”.

So the question is “Are there different kinds of love? Is love just an emotion?”

In Romans 12:9-12 Paul tells us of many other ways that Christian love is more than just an emotion buy telling us to let love be genuine by actions:

Show honor, serve the Lord, rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer, contribute to others needs, extend hospitality, bless, rejoice, weep, live in harmony, associate with the lowly, show humility, show no revenge as all is noble, live peaceably with all, overcome evil with good….

Wow, that’s a plate full.
Thinking about love as action rather then emotion is changing my perspective daily.

Thank you St. Paul for the well written advice.
