A Short Tribute to the Origin's of Pro Football

Proud To Be Part of the History of Football

Sometimes football isn't just about being a fan; it's in your DNA. Being raised in Ohio, cold winters, lots of snow, and icy cold weather equated to a warm house and Football. Every Sunday after going to church, we watched football. Dad knew every player, all the stats and could call the plays. Of course, I didn't realize the importance of his past. He was a member of the original Minerva Merchant Farm Team, one of Ohio's best semiprofessional football teams. Thanks to the Canton Repository for bringing some of Ohio's history to life in this article "Minerva Merchants dominated semipro football in 1930's and ‘40s." (2010) His legacy lived on in his son's Dave and Ed and continued with his grandsons', Matthew and Michael playing for the Mount Union Raiders who have won 12 NCAA Division III Football championships.

We were Cleveland Browns fans, through and through. Dad would be sad for Cleveland's struggles, but I'm confident he would know the solution. He would also appreciate and respect Tom Brady's success. He would be glued to a big HD screen every Thursday and Sunday for the season. And there would not be a noisy party for Super Bowl Sunday, but instead, a warm house, Dad's comfy chair, Mom cooking up something yummy and nothing but football.

Here's to you Dad. May you enjoy the best seat in the house from above for Super Bowl LII.

Free Range Chickens

Recently my family and I saw the Academy Award-nominated documentary, Food, Inc. It was an eye opener for sure. I highly recommend it.

Being a born and raised farm gal from Ohio it made me really think about how I was raised and how healthy I am today.

The etiquette factor in hands-free cell phone usage is my pet peeve…..

We have become the society that wonders, with a purpose of course, around talking to ourselves. Everywhere you go someone is seemingly having a conversation with you without even an introduction. I really love watching the person in a brisk walk, intent on their destination conversing like they are in a room with five of their best friends.

I must confess that I too am a Bluetooth cell phone consumer. My purpose is two fold:

The Tomato: One of God's Finest

I look forward to tending to my tomato garden every year.

This year’s crop is exceptional. And to make it even better the tomato is rated one of the worlds healthiest foods.

Love

Many of us seem to be in search of love, wanting to find the true meaning, thinking that you may have experienced it once or twice but not sure what happened to it.

We certainly feel love for our children even though we sometimes do not show it. That privileged intimacy that comes with being a parent is love for certain. Sadly, some parents can’t accomplish the wondrous dependency, that bond that never breaks kind of love between parent and child.

My Political Opinion

A man was drowning in the lake 100 feet from the shore. The Republican got a 50 foot rope and threw it to him and said, “Swim in half way.”The Democrat throws out 200 feet of rope and then runs off to rescue someone else.

The beauty of living in the USA is that someone will throw out a rope. Whether it is too much rope or we have to put some effort to get to it is our choice.

Be Still

I need this prayer handy at my keyboard fingertips regularly throughout the day. I thought I would share it with all of you. I’m sure you have days when you need it too. Enjoy and have a Son filled day!

Who Are You?

Ernest Hemingway was once challenged to write a story in only six words.

The result was "For sale: baby shoes, never used."

Here's an interesting and challenging activity.

Explain yourself in just six words.

I'm Alive

A young man of 58 lost his wife to cancer.

They were so in love the entire 32 years they were married and raised a family of five loving children that were gifting them with numerous grandchildren. They had made many good choices in life including raising their family with faith in God.
After the loss, he didn’t know what to do. He was so lonely and often spent time at their beach house walking the beach even contemplating a swim out to the horizon hoping not to return.
